Tool:Quality Team Charter

Problem:
To help quality leaders plan quality improvement or planning initiatives. This tool helps organize the team's aim, the membership, and quantifies/qualifies goals and metrics that are designed to be measured for success and progress along the way.

Tool Selection:
Many times a problem is identified but scope and structure is not outlined. The team can take on more than is needed, or get sidetracked in the weeds with issues that may not be relevant to the improvement opportunity. Clearing laying out a charter helps the team succeed.

Usage:
The charter was completed by the quality team leaders, with senior leadership approval and involvement. That way all leaders are on the same track of improvement and resources can be allocated appropriately due to the charter specificity. In addition, barriers are identified up front and processed accordingly.

Results:
The charter was adopted by the team and referenced during each team meeting with data added as the team progressed. It is the cornerstone of communication for all involved. In addition, the charter is shared with leaders and sponsors so they are aware of the team's progress.
